Negative Doubles

A negative (or Sputnik) double is a type of takeout double by responder after partner has opened with a suit bid and opponents have made a suit overcall. When this happens, choices of bid are limited, so the negative double is a useful way to describe your hand. The bid shows some strength and interest in the unbid suits, especially a 4-card major.
